Financial management students top thesis competition Students of the Financial Management Department reaped top honors in the First National Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE)-Philippine Association of Collegiate Schools in Business (PACSB) Best Thesis Competition held on March 18 at the PSE-Ayala Board Room. Joana Balatbat, Marc Jason Que and Marlo Erwin Zavalla won First Place for their research “A Study on the Capital Structure Choice of Top 25 Non-Financial Companies in the Philippine Stock Exchange from 1998 to 2003.” They were mentored by Dr. Annegirl Berin. Meanwhile, Kelvin Chua, Ciara Heimbrod, and Marco Pauly placed second for their work “A Study on the Effects of Economic Variables and Financial Ratios on Stock Prices of Selected Philippine Firms Belonging to the Food, Banking and Telecommunications Sectors.” Dr. Leila Calderon-Kabigting served as their adviser. The group of Sheila Ching, Ailyn Dela Torre, Michelle Lorraine Go, and Rosa Regina Ramos won the consolation prize for their paper “A Study on the Effects of Foreign Exchange Deregulation on the Policy Variables of the Selected Commercial Banks from 1998 to 2002.” Lawrence Co was the group’s adviser.
