Political Science Department, OP hosts Davide lecture series  | Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. and Dean Raul Pangalangan | The Political Science Department and the De La Salle University System Office of the President hosted the third Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series on March 30 at the Teresa Yunchengco Auditorium. Dean Raul Pangalangan of the University of the Philippines College of Law read his paper “Hilario G. Davide Jr.: A Study in Judicial Philosophy - Transformative Politics and Judicial Activism”. In his paper, Pangalangan highlighted some of Davide’s bold decisions as Chief Justice, such as the issue of PIRMA in 1997, among other things. In conclusion, Pangalangan affirmed that Davide is judge of conscience able to strike a balance between upholding the law and promoting substantive social cause. Pangalangan was presented with a plaque of appreciation by Davide, Valedictory Executive Committee Chairman Justice Artemio Panganiban, Retired Justice Ameurfina Herrera, and Political Science Department Chair Dr. Julio Teehankee. The lecture was co-presented with the Supreme Court of the Philippines and the Philippine Judicial Academy in recognition of Davide’s last year of service as SC Chief Justice.
