De La Salle’s new landmark in Laguna opens | | The del Rosario clan, with the Lasallian Brothers, posing for posterity at the facade of the new building. | A new four-story building housing the administrative offices and classrooms of De La Salle University (DLSU)-Canlubang Leandro V. Locsin Campus was formally dedicated during the celebration of the school’s first foundation day on July 23. Named the Milagros R. del Rosario Building in honor of the wife of Ambassador Ramon Vivencio del Rosario, the new structure is an integral part of De La Salle University System’s eighth campus. “While it has a distinctive Lasallian façade, it is designed to be modern using a lot of glass and opting for clean columns instead of the usual neo-classic look of the Taft structures,” said DLSU-Canlubang Executive Vice President Dr. Arnulfo Azcarraga. Lying on a sprawling 50-hectare land near the thriving Laguna Technopark, the building is a donation of Ambassador del Rosario (BSC ‘38), chairperson of the board for the PHINMA Group of Companies and former Philippine ambassador to Canada and Western Germany. Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Br. Rolando Dizon FSC read the testimonial, while DLSU Board of Regents Chairperson Ramon del Rosario, Jr. (AB-BSC ‘67) and DLSU System President Designate Br. Armin Luistro FSC unveiled the marker. DLSU System Interim President Dr. Carmelita Quebengco, in her remarks of circumstance, shared her vision for the new campus. “Bright science students will find their place here and see the realization of their full potential. In partnership with the industries in the technopark area, DLSU-Canlubang is poised to progress into a Silicon Valley type of a community. Here, De La Salle will be the landmark and the hub of major technological innovations.” The new building has 35 classrooms, two elevators, four exit stairways, a 200-seater auditorium, an audio-visual room, a kids playroom, a robotics classroom, and three computer laboratories for science courses. Construction of the building began in April 2002. The group who headed the construction project was composed of DLSU-Canlubang Chair of the Board of Trustees Dr. Ceferino Follosco, and members Guillermo Lochangco, Danilo Ignacio, Juan Carlos del Rosario, and Azcarraga, VP for System Campus Development Engineer Aurellano de la Cruz, and VP for System Finance Teresita Farrell. Leandro Locsin and Partners was the architectural design firm of the project.
