Lasallians observe Vocation Week

The Lasallian community will celebrate the Vocation Week from July 29 to August 2. Led by the Lasallian Pastoral Office, the event aims to enhance the awareness of young people about the different choices in life whether in the religious, single, or married states.

There will also be a vocation campaign in RELS 3 & 4 classes, which will be participated by the different congregations in the Archdiocese of Manila. An exhibit will also display information on the different congregations.

In anticipation of the 4th World Meeting of Families in January 2003, the launching of the Year of the Family will also take place during the week.

DLSU-M celebrates History Week

The University will observe “Linggo ng Kasaysayan” on July 29 until August 2. Throughout the week, the “Heroes of the Philippine Revolution” exhibit will be on display at the lobby of the newly built Don Enrique T. Yuchengco Hall.

Headed by the History Department, the celebration will feature a series of lectures will be held on July 30 and 31. Dr. Luis Dery, Joey Jimenez, and Fernando Santiago will give talks on the “Heroes of the Philippine Revolution” on July 30, 1-4 p.m., at the Waldo Perfecto Seminar Room (WPSR). On the other hand, Dr. Cornelio Bascara will share his insights on the “French in the Philippines during the 19th Century” on July 31, 1-2:30 p.m., at the Ariston Estrada Seminar Room.

Selected classes from Philippine History and J.P. Rizal will give a cultural presentation at the William Shaw Theater on July 31, 3 p.m. To cap the week-long activities, the department will sponsor a Philippine History Quiz Bee on August 2, 1-4 p.m., at the WPSR. It aims to challenge students on their knowledge of history and their heritage.

BNSCWRC announces Asia-Pacific poetry conference

The Bienvenido N. Santos Creative Writing and Research Center, in cooperation with the Departmento ng Literatura at Wikang Filipino and the International Studies Department, will hold one of the three-day sessions of the Asia-Pacific Conference Workshop on Indigenous and Contemporary Poetry on August 23, 9 a.m., at the Marilen Gaerlan Conservatory (North Wing). This will be the first international poetry conference in the Philippines.

The De La Salle session of the conference is open to the faculty, students, and staff on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is on-going and will be closed by July 31. From STUFAP to SFA

The Council of Deans has approved the change of name of the Student Financial Assistance Program (STUFAP). Starting this school year, it will be known as the Scholarship and Financial Assistance (SFA) Office.
