DLSU-M explores links with Asian universities
Br. Roly off to China, Japan

DLSU System President Br. Rolando Dizon, FSC left for Japan March 31 to attend the entrance ceremony for the opening of the School of Asia 21 of Kokushikan University (KU) on April 1. The School of Asia was set up “to promote mutual understanding with the world’s countries in an effort to establish a relationship of international cooperation in which we all enjoy prosperity,” as stated in their letter of invitation.

The University has an academic exchange agreement with KU brokered in June 1997. The memorandum of agreement stipulates the two institutions to foster “cooperation between their respective Universities in academic research and in the exchange of personnel.” KU has concluded agreements with 24 universities in 14 regions of the world.

KU will give Br. Roly a briefing on their university and a tour of their different campuses in Japan. During the visit, Brother Roly will also meet the heads of the different universities with which KU is allianced to explore possible linkages with them.

Meanwhile, Br. Roly is also scheduled to leave for China on April 10 to meet with officers of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China regarding a possible exchange program. The Ministry is currently promoting PRC’s education programs, and invited university Presidents of Philippine universities to explore possibilities of tie-ups.

Other universities represented are the Ateneo de Manila University, Centro Escolar University, Philippine Normal University, University of Asia and the Pacific, University of the East, University of the Philippines, and University of Sto. Tomas.

Br. Roly will visit Beijing University and Quinghwa University, both in Beijing, and Fudan University in Shanghai as part of the trip. The visit is sponsored by the Association of Philippine Universities for Sino Studies.
