links with Asian universities
Br. Roly off to China, Japan

System President Br. Rolando Dizon, FSC left for Japan March
31 to attend the entrance ceremony for the opening of the
School of Asia 21 of Kokushikan University (KU) on April 1.
The School of Asia was set up “to promote mutual understanding
with the world’s countries in an effort to establish a relationship
of international cooperation in which we all enjoy prosperity,”
as stated in their letter of invitation.
The University has an academic exchange agreement with KU
brokered in June 1997. The memorandum of agreement stipulates
the two institutions to foster “cooperation between their
respective Universities in academic research and in the exchange
of personnel.” KU has concluded agreements with 24 universities
in 14 regions of the world.
KU will give Br. Roly a briefing on their university and a
tour of their different campuses in Japan. During the visit,
Brother Roly will also meet the heads of the different universities
with which KU is allianced to explore possible linkages with
them.
Meanwhile, Br. Roly is also scheduled to leave for China on
April 10 to meet with officers of the Ministry of Education
of the People’s Republic of China regarding a possible exchange
program. The Ministry is currently promoting PRC’s education
programs, and invited university Presidents of Philippine
universities to explore possibilities of tie-ups.
Other universities represented are the Ateneo de Manila University,
Centro Escolar University, Philippine Normal University, University
of Asia and the Pacific, University of the East, University
of the Philippines, and University of Sto. Tomas.
Br. Roly will visit Beijing University and Quinghwa University,
both in Beijing, and Fudan University in Shanghai as part
of the trip. The visit is sponsored by the Association of
Philippine Universities for Sino Studies.
