COE professor
wins 1st CHIMES Award
After
months of deliberation and evaluation, the System CHIMES Award
Committee (SCAC) recently announced the winners of the first
Lorenzo M. Tañada CHIMES Award. One of De La Salle
University-Manila’s very own, Engr. Godofredo Salazar, faculty
member of the College of Engineering, won the special award.
He shared the honor with Dr. Jose Esteban of the DLSU-Health
Sciences Campus.
In
the President’s Bulletin, Br. Rolando Dizon, FSC, president
of the DLSU System, said that the two Lasallian professors
were chosen for being exemplary models as Christian Achievers
in their chosen fields and beyond.
One
of Salazar’s accomplishments as a distinguished professor
of the Mechanical Engineering Department is the success of
the Abra Micro-Hydro Power (MHP) Project. This five-year collaborative
project between DLSU-Manila and the Diocese of Bangued, Abra
provides a cheap and clean source of energy to indigenous
communities. Last year, the project won a nationwide contest
for the Most Innovative, New, and Renewable Energy System.
The DLSU-M CHIMES Award Committee officially nominated Salazar
to SCAC in November. The call for nominations was started
early this school year. Those who may qualify are students,
faculty, co-academic personnel, administrators (below the
level of dean or its equivalent), and alumni of the Lasallian
family of the DLSU System.
The
Lorenzo M. Tañada CHIMES Award is an undertaking of
the DLSU System. It was established to recognize those who
live, exemplify, and promote the values that contribute to
the development of teamwork, innovation, competence, and the
desire to make a difference in society.
The
awarding ceremony is set on May 28 at the Chapel of the Most
Blessed Sacrament. The said date is also the death anniversary
of former senator and street parliamentarian Lorenzo Tañada.
