graduate director speaks in Bacolod and Cebu
Dr.
Leornardo Garcia Jr., director of the College of Business
and Economics Graduate Studies, was invited as one of the
speakers in seminars held in Bacolod and Cebu. The first one
was on January 19 at the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod
(USLS) where he spoke on “Managing the Future Through Advocacy
Advertising” before students.
The second was held in the afternoon at the Business Inn,
Bacolod City, where he discussed the basics and regional applications
of the marketing mix before practitioners. With the theme,
“ABCs of Marketing,” the seminar was sponsored by the Philippine
Marketing Association (PMA)-Bacolod Chapter, headed by Josefa
Puentevella as president.
On January 26, Garcia spoke on “Single-minded Proposition
in Advertising and Strategic Planning” at the Marriot Hotel,
Cebu City, during a PMA-Cebu Chapter sponsored seminar. The
theme was “Marketing Buzzwords to Remember to Fast-Forward
Growth.” Garcia is PMA’s Chairperson of Chapters for 2002

elected PHSSA president
Dr.
Ma. Elena Chiong-Javier, associate professor of the Behavioral
Sciences Department, was recently elected president of the
Philippine Health Social Science Association (PHSSA) during
its last general assembly.
Chiong-Javier was one of the Manila-based groups of social
scientists and health professionals who founded PHSSA as a
non-government organization committed to harnessing its collective
knowledge, expertise, and resources to promote the health
of the people through empowering strategies. It has since
grown into a multi-centered national organization with 14
chapters throughout the country. Its members come from other
non-government organizations, government agencies, and academic
and research institutions.
A number of DLSU-M faculty members and Master of Health Social
Science (MAHESOS) students of the Behavioral Sciences Department
count among PHSSA’s active members.
