Villacorta
attends UNDP consultation
Dr.
Wilfrido Villacorta, president of the Yuchengco Center for
East Asia (YCEA) and full professor of political science,
represented the Philippines in the first regional consultation
for the 2002 Global Human Development Report (HDR) on January
21-22.
Sponsored by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP),
the consultation was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, and was attended
by specialists from Central, South, Southeast, and North Asia,
and by top UNDP officials. The Global HDR is published annually
by the United Nations, along with national HDRs.
Villacorta also presented the proposal for the first Human
Development Report for Southeast Asia. The research and writing
will be conducted by the YCEA, in cooperation with other leading
research institutes in the region.

gets virtual tour of France
On
January 16, the International Studies Department-French Studies
Program was treated to a virtual tour of France in a lecture
titled “Pot-Pourri of Cities” presented by Marion Lamy, cultural
coordinator of the French Embassy.
Lamy guided the audience through the main cities in France
namely Marseille, Lyon, Strasbourg, and Bordeux. During the
virtual tour, she presented important insights on French lifestyle
and revealed how closely related Filipinos are to the French,
especially in the aspects of food and fashion. Students, faculty,
and administrators also discovered the French culture through
the lives of artists and writers like Camus, Toulouse-Lautrec,
Cejanne, and Monet.
