The Board of Trustees and the academic community of De La Salle University-Manila recognized Br. Michael for his meritorious contributions and achievements in education. For 63 years now, he has been serving in various capacities as a La Salle Brother in the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.

While he was based in Rome from 1966 to 1976, he was appointed as the Assistant-Superior General for Asia. This position resulted in the formation of Brothers’ communities and schools in the Asian region particularly in Malaysia, Pakistan, India, Ceylon, Burma, Thailand, Laos, South Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Singapore.

As a Christian educator, he has shared his expertise with other educational entities in Malaysia. He is the founder and advisor of the Malaysian Federation of Lasallian Associations. Since 1962, he has handled key positions in Malayan Christian Schools and has built several schools in the region. Among them are the St. Xavier’s Branch School Penang, La Salle-Ayer Itam, La Salle Junior Training Center, Ipoh, and Assumption School Extension, Butterworth, and St. George’s Balik Pulau.

His meritorious contributions to the cause of education have earned him a number of awards. In 1963, he received the AHLI MANGKU NEGARA from his Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, and the PINGAT JASA KEBANGSAAN by the Governor of Penang in 1992.

Br. Michael’s conferment is part of DLSU-M’s continuing efforts to strengthen relationship with partner Lasallian institutions in Malaysia. Among La Salle’s other programs include assistance and consultancy particularly in their curriculum and academic programs.
