DLSU-Manila
pioneers
interactive CD on Religious Studies
In
line with De La Salle University-Manila’s efforts to integrate
internet technology in teaching, the Religious Studies Department
(RSD) will launch an interactive compact disc (CD) featuring
a full course material.
The first of its kind in the local academe, the CD will be
officially launched on August 29, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon,
at the E-classroom (M306). Titled “Pilipinong Kristiyanong
Moralidad,” it is a compilation of reading materials, and
case analyses for the RELS3 subject.
The course material was developed by Dr. Eduardo Domingo,
RSD faculty. Instead of publishing a book, he opted to go
interactive to keep pace with the students’ growing use of
the internet and to make religion classes more interesting.
RELS3 is a three-unit course with a theme centered on Christian
morality. The subject provides an analysis of the moral dimension
of the Christian faith as it meets the challenges of modern
life, particularly in Philippine society. Domingo wrote and
translated the CD content in Filipino to place the topic in
its cultural context.
The
interactive CD seeks to complement online instruction done
in the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE) website.
The IVLE is an online courseware management system designed
to bring students and instructors of the university in a virtual
learning environment.
DLSU-M’s Center for Educational Multimedia (CREM) assisted
in the design of the CD, developed its interface, and organized
the content. It is the first full course material on CD to
be developed by CREM. Brother Mike Rapatan, FSC, director
of CREM, encourages faculty to undertake the same course-related
projects to supplement classroom teaching for enhanced learning.
The CD launch is part of the Buwan ng Wika celebration sponsored
by the Department of Literature and Philippine Languages.
