CENSER
teams up with Greenpeace to save
the environment
In
preparation for the next United Nations Earth Summit in July
2002, the Center for Natural Sciences and Environmental Research
(CENSER) joins forces with Greenpeace Southeast Asia and The
Body Shop Philippines to promote environmental awareness.
To know the right facts and action to take, the group will
hold a seminar on the greenhouse effect and global warming
on August 17, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Science and Technology
Research Center (STRC) Building.
Primarily, the seminar aims to create awareness about global
warming and encourage participants to make a wise choice for
the environment. It also advocates the use of clean and renewable
energy in all phases of production and consumption of products.
Despite the commitment made by the international governments
in the 1992 Earth Summit to cut down the emission of carbon
dioxide (CO2 ) and other harmful gases, recent studies indicate
that the global environment is still under a serious threat.
At the heart of the problem is the climate change marked by
unpredictable weather patterns. This is evident in the occurrence
of droughts, floods, and hurricanes that increase in frequency
and severity across the world.
