Lumbera
to critique Ateneo prof’s book
Writer
Benilda Santos will present her work, Alipato: New and Selected
Poems (Salimbayan Books, 1991) with Bienvenido Lumbera as
her critic, in a special literary gathering called “Conversation
with Writer”. This presentation is an intellectual and verbal
exchange between a critic and a writer on a particular work.
It will be held on June 27, 6 pm, at the Afterwords Café/Filipino
Bookstore, second floor of Bistro Remedios Circle, Malate.
The event is open to the public.
Santos
is the chairperson of the Department of Filipino at Ateneo
de Manila University. Pali-palitong Posporo (1991) is a collection
of her poems in Filipino. She also co-edited with DLWF faculty
Dr. Marjorie Evasco an anthology of love poems entitled Kung
Ibig Mo (1993). Lumbera is currently a professor of DLWF.
His critical writings include Tagalog Poetry, 1570-1898:Tradition
and Influences in Its Development (1986), Revaluation (1984,
revised 1997), and Writing the Nation/Pag-akda ng Bansa (2000).
He is a recipient of numerous awards, which include the National
Books Awards, Gawad Pambansang Alagad ni Balagtas Award for
Criticism, Gawad CCP Para sa Sining for literature and cultural
research, the Ramon Magsaysay Award, and the CCP Centennial
Honor for the Arts.
The DLWF (Departamento ng Literatura at Wikang Filipino) BookClub
will sponsor the event, in cooperation with ABC Galleries,
Filipino Bookstore and Bale Dutung .
The first session of Conversation was held last March 1, featuring
writer Charlson Ong and young critic David Jonathan Bayot.
