tops DLSU-Manila mock elections
Franklin
Drilon led the senatorial pack in DLSU–Manila’s
mock elections last March 7.
Re-electionist Drilon garnered 66 votes from a
random sampling of 75 students. Running close
behind him was Joker Arroyo with 65 votes, followed
by Juan Flavier with 52 votes.
The remaining candidates chosen by the Lasallians
were Manny Villar (48), Sergio Osmeña III (47),
Winnie Monsod (46), Ramon Magsaysay (45), Manny
Pangilinan (41), Wigberto Tañada (39), Perfecto
Yasay (36), Noli de Castro (34), Ralph Recto (25),
Edgardo Angara (23), Panfilo Lacson (21) and Dong
Puno (20)
The activity was sponsored by The Lasallian as
part of the Student Publication Week activities.

Local
scientists and science journal editors converged at the De
La Salle University-Manila campus last Friday, March 9, for
the 3rd Annual DLSU Science & Technology Conference, tackling
the issue on scientific publishing in the Philippines.
The event, hosted by DLSU-Manila together with the National
Academy of Science and Technology and the Outstanding Young
Scientists, Inc., served as venue to discuss the current state
of scientific publishing in the country and to find ways to
promote their researches.
Guest speakers were Dr. Flor Lacanilao of UP Marine Science
Institute who shared his experience on research publication,
and Dr. Fortunato Sevilla III of the UST College of Science
who discussed “Publishing Chemistry Research Paper-A Pinoy
Experience”.
Others who also gave their insights on scientific publishing
were Dr. Milagros Navarro, editor-in-chief of the Matimyas
Matematika (Official Journal of the Mathematical Society of
the Philippines), Dr. Lourdes Cruz, also of UP-MSI, who talked
on “The Philippine Journal of Science Experience”, and Dr.
AllenTan of the Psychological Association of the Philippines,
who talked about the future of the country’s scientific publications.
The participants noted the various issues in the publication
of research journals, including the quality of research, the
amount of contributions, and the need for support from organizations
both from private and government sectors.
The conference participants sought ways and means to promote
local scientific journals.
Parallel
sessions were held in the afternoon, during which the conference
participants were provided different venues to discuss their
respective areas of interest.
Faculty presenters came from the College of Education, the
College of Engineering, the College of Computer Studies, the
College of Science, and the Physics Department.
