admin backs Brother Andrew for VPA post
Brother
Andrew Gonzalez, FSC has been nominated as DLSU-Manila’s Vice
President for Academics effective school year 2001-2002.
DLSU System President Brother Rolando Dizon, FSC made the
announcement to the academic community last February 9 following
the resignation of Dr. Wyona Patalinghug from the post. Patalinghug
expressed interest in returning to full-time teaching effective
this coming school year.
“We express our gratitude to her for having served well as
VPA for over three years, and wish her success in her future
endeavors,” Brother Roly said in his memo.
Following a consultation with the Council of Deans, Executive
Vice President Dr. Carmelita Quebengco recommended to Brother
Roly’s office the appointment of Brother Andrew.
The recommendation will be submitted to the DLSU Board of
Trustees for confirmation.
“Please join me in warmly welcoming back Brother Andrew to
the DLSU-Manila campus. Let us accord him our full and earnest
support,” Brother Roly said.
Brother Andrew was DLSU System President for 16 years, beginning
1979 until 1991, and again in 1992 up to 1998 before joining
the former administration cabinet as Department of Culture,
Education, and Sports (DECS) Secretary.
As VPA, he will oversee the different colleges, namely, the
College of Liberal Arts, the College of Education, the College
of Engineering, the College of Science, and the College of
Business and Economics. The office is also in charge of the
University’s various graduate studies programs.
Meanwhile, Brother Andrew started his new role last week as
president and publisher of the DLSU Press. He replaced Dr.
Isagani Cruz, who joins the government as DECS undersecretary.
Cruz also left his post as DLSU-Manila’s chair of the Departamento
ng Literatura at Wikang Filipino. Named DLWF’s officer-in-charge
is Dr. Oscar Campomanes.
