on for Star Scholars Batch 2001
Designed
and given only to the best and brightest graduating high school
students, another batch of Star Scholars candidates will attend
a special orientation on February 16 at the M. Gaerlan Conservatory.
The Office of the AVP for Academic Services and the Marketing
Communication Office will sponsor the event.
Of
the thousands of aspiring fourth year high school students
who hurdled the university entrance examinations on September
and October last year, only 40 made it to the preliminary
screening.
Thirteen of which came from various Lasallian institutions
such as La Salle Green Hills, De La Salle Santiago-Zobel,
and La Salle Academy-Iligan. The rest of the batch came from
other prestigious high schools such as Ateneo de Manila, Philippine
Science High School, Poveda Learning Center, St. Jude Catholic
School, San Beda College, Xavier School-San Juan, Immaculate
Conception Academy-San Juan, Uno Hihg School, St. Bridget’s
College-Batangas, St. Stephen’s High School, Grace Christian
High School, Don Bosco Technical Institute-Makati, Chiang
Kai Shek College, PAREF Woodrose School, St. Paul College
of Pasig, and Assumption Antipolo High School.
Started in 1999, the Star Scholars Program is an innovative
scholarship that offers an integrated undergraduate and graduate
scholarship to top students from all over the country. Those
selected for the program have the unique opportunity to earn
a master’s degree or go into medical proper after finishing
their undergraduate degree on full scholarship.
As part of the orientation, the Star Scholars candidates will
meet university officials and deans of the different colleges,
as well as alumni and students who belong to the first and
second batches of Star Scholars. These candidates will then
be interviewed by STUFAP and Admissions officials for the
next and final step of the selection process. By March, the
new Star Scholars batch for school year 2001-2002 will be
announced.
