DLSU-Manila forges ties with national marketing orgs
MOAs further strengthen graduate program in marketing

In a move to further intensify the Master of Science in Marketing program of the College of Business and Economics, De La Salle University-Manila recently signed two Memoranda of Agreement with the Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) and the Marketing Executive of the Pharmaceutical Healthcare Industry (MEPI) on November 15 at the University Board Room.


FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE. Running priest Fr. Robert Reyes visited DLSU-Manila last November 17 as part of his vigil dubbed “Rally of One” over the historic Senate hearings on the impeachment of President Joseph Estrada.

Representing the PMA during the signing were Jose Jesus Roces, president; and Marketing Management Department Chair Dr. Leonardo Garcia, Jr., executive vice president. MEPI, on the other hand, was led by Delila Lojo, president; and Manuel Galias, executive director. Meanwhile, DLSU System President Brother Rolando Dizon, FSC led the University officials.

Under the MOA with PMA, the MS in Marketing students who have taken and passed its marketing courses or their equivalent in Marketing Research, Marketing Communications, and Marketing Strategy will be recognized by the Marketing Institute of the Philippines of the PMA as exempted from the Certified Professional Marketer (CPM) qualifying examinations in the said areas.

The CPM (Asia Pacific) is the formal endorsement of professional status for professionals who have already attained practical understanding of marketing in the Asia Pacific region.

Applicants for CPM whose undergraduate degree and/or master’s degree transcripts of academic records are not appropriate as defined by the Asia Pacific Marketing Federation may enroll at DLSU-Manila as reviewee to qualify for exemptions in the CPM qualifying examinations. They may also take a seminar course for those subjects which will be offered by the CBE Graduate Programs.

These applicants for CPM who will enroll as reviewees or seminar participants in the aforementioned courses shall be exempted from taking the graduate school entrance examination, unless they will pursue the MS in Marketing degree.

On the other hand, MEPI and DLSU-Manila mutually agree to offer a further specialization in Pharmaceutical Marketing for marketing executives in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector through a focused syllabus of each course offering. the courses will highlight pharmaceutical and healthcare issues and developments.

Under this program, students taking up MS in Marketing with specialization in Pharmaceutical Marketing shall undergo the regular requirements in taking up the program like an entrance examination, an interview, and endorsements from MEPI.

For their part, the marketing executives organization shall assist the Graduate School Program in providing faculty and resource persons in the pharmaceutical cognate subjects.

The agreement with PMA shall take effect for a period of two years beginning with the CPM qualifying examinations starting March 2001. It will be in force and applied every March and September of each year, the regular examination months for CPM (Asia Pacific) in all the Asia Pacific countries where a recognized National Marketing Body exists.

Meanwhile, the MOA with MEPI shall take effect beginning 3rd term of school year 2000-2001 under the condition that a class composed of a minimum of six students can be organized to take up MS in Marketing with specialization in Pharmaceutical Marketing.
