ELED professor completes SEAMEO training

Dr. Sterling Plata of the English Language Education Department recently completed the Specialist Certificate Course in Language Testing from September 4 to 23 at the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) at the SEAMEO Regional Language Centre in Singapore. The major components of the training were: language test development, critical review of tests/issues in language testing, testing language teacher proficiency, and testing the macro skills. Plata was under the scholarship of SEAMEO.

CE faculty in ASEP

Two faculty members from the Department of Civil Engineering were elected officers of the Association of Structural Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (ASEP) for 2000-2001. Dr. Romeo Estanero is the elected vice president while Dr. Andres Winston Oreta is a member of the Board of Directors. They were inducted into office last September 27 at Club Filipino in San Juan.

Mechanical engineering students from Leyte visit La Salle

The Mechanical Engineering Department welcomed 36 mechanical engineering students and faculty of Leyte Institute of Technology (LIT) in the Taft campus on October 5. The students and faculty were given a brief lecture on trends in mechanical engineering education and a tour of the different laboratories. This was the second year of such visit to the department.

LIT, a state college in Tacloban, Leyte, will be assisted by the department through its community extension projects in the areas of faculty development, curriculum improvement, laboratory upgrading, and research projects.

La Salle performers win in inter-school dance meet

Cultural Arts Office’s La Salle Dance Troupe and the De La Salle BooTeS won first and second place, respectively, in an inter-school dance competition called “peACe”. Hosted by Assumption College, the event was held last September 29 at Mas y Mas - Baluarte de San Andres, Intramuros, Manila. LSDT’s win was its second gold in inter-school competitions. Jeni Juliano choreographed for the team.
