Statement of Concern
We view with grave concern the accusations hurled at DECS Secretary Andrew Gonzalez and other DECS officials by Senator Juan Ponce
Enrile.
In the interest of truth and justice, we urge a formal investigation by the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee. We are confident that any such investigation will confirm that Brother Andrew is a man of total honesty and integrity.
As elections draw nearer and the need for public attention becomes more intense, we urge our political leaders not to use their parliamentary privilege to launch personal attacks on people of proven probity, all for political gain.
We hope that this is not the start of a campaign to interfere in the internal affairs of DECS, in preparation for the coming elections, where teachers will play a pivotal role.
We stand solidly behind Brother Andrew. We believe that, through his leadership, DECS has reformed and improved our educational
system.
