|DLSU faculty lead newly-elected PACERS officers
Five DLSU-Manila faculty were voted to major posts in the Philippine Association for Counselor Educators, Research, and Supervision (PACERS), a national organization of guidance counselors and counseling psychologists, during its election of officers last August 11 at the GEMS Sports and Conference Center in
Elected were the following: Dr. Imelda Villar, Board of Directors chair; Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez, Board of Directors vice chair; Dr. Carmelita Pabiton, Executive Council president; Amparo de Guzman, Executive Council vice president; and Dr. Susan Estanislao, Executive Council treasurer. Except for De Guzman and Estanislao, all are Counselor Education faculty members.
The election coincided with the Association’s mid-year workshop which was participated in by 145 guidance counselors and counseling psychologists nationwide. Five of the six workshops offered from August 11 to 12 were conducted by La Salle faculty.
Villar talked on “Managing Abused Children”, Fernandez on “Quality Management Skills for Counselors”, De Guzman on “Providing Intervention and Treatment for Drug Abuse, Dr. Alexa Abrenica on “Enhancing Guidance Services Through Research”, and Vicente Abrenica on “Conducting Growth Group: Facilitating Skills”.
DLWF faculty present papers
Faculty of the Departmento ng Literatura at Wikang Filipino (DLWF) participated in the Sixth National Congress of the Sanggunian ng mga Unibersidad at Kolehiyo sa Filipino (SANGFIL) held at Miriam College on August 24-25. Dr. Bienvenido Lumbera gave the keynote speech.
The paper presenters and the title of their works were: Dr. Estrellita Gruenberg, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, “Pagsasalin mula sa mga Rehiyon tungo sa Filipino”; Dr. Isagani Cruz, “Agenda sa Pananaliksik ng Wika”; and Dr. Magdalena Sayas, “Pagtuturo ng Panitikang Filipino: Lokal at Global”. Imelda De Castro, vice president of SANGFIL, served as moderator of one session.
ME chair appointed at ASHRAE
Dr. Manuel Belino, chair of the Mechanical Engineering Department, was appointed Chairman on Student Activities of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Airconditioning Engineer (ASHRAE)-Philippines Chapter.
He will be in-charge of forming ASHRAE student actions and coordinating student activities. He attended the society’s 3rd regional conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 25-26.
Belino is currently the vice president of the Philippine Institute of Mechanical Engineering Educators, director of the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers-Manila Chapter, and faculty advisor of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers-International Student Section in the University.
PUSO gives support to CLA Guidance Office
