DLSU faculty leads Philippine delegates in Asia-Pacific counselors’ confab
Dr. Rose Marie Salazar-Clemeña, full professor of the Counselor Education Department (COUNSED), led a delegation of 37 Philippine participants in the 13th Biennial Conference-Workshop of the Association of Psychological and Educational Counselors of Asia-Pacific (APECA) held in Chonju City, Korea from July 25 to 29.
Aside from delivering her presidential address, Dr. Salazar-Clemeña, who served as APECA president for two terms (1996-98; 1998-2000), also read a paper on “Integrating Spirituality in Counseling: A Step in the Quest for Culture-Sensitivity” and led a discussion group on “School Counseling: Issues and Problems in the Third Millennium.”
Other DLSU faculty who participated in the conference were: COUNSED chair Dr. Carmelita Pabiton, who spoke on “University Guidance and Counseling: The De La Salle Model”; Dr. Barbara Wong-Fernandez, COUNSED associate professor, who gave the country report on the conference theme, “Achieving Excellence: Alternative Counseling Paradigms for the Third Millennium”; and Dr. Alexa Abrenica, CLA Graduate Studies director, who read a paper on “Developing Quality of Life for the Elderly”.
Others who attended the conference were part-time COUNSED faculty members Dr. Naomi Ruiz and Dr. Imelda Villar, CED guidance counselor Amparo de Guzman, and COUNSED graduate students Fr. Hermanus Sigit Pawanta, SVD and Fr. Joseph Daniel Simon, SVD. Dr. Ruiz co-facilitated a workshop on “Creative Strategies for Group Process,” whereas Villar read a paper and conducted a workshop on “Rewriting Memories as a Brief Therapy.”
Brother Gregory launches book on St. La Salle
On the occasion of his 55th anniversary as a Brother of the Christian Schools, Brother Gregory Wright, FSC, launches
St. John Baptist de La Salle: A 17th Century Educational Innovator today, August 14, 6 p.m., at the Marilen Gaerlan Conservatory.
Everyone is invited to attend this special event co-sponsored by the History Department and the De La Salle University Press.
Appointed as CINEMA member
Dr. Natividad Pagadut has been appointed by Bishop Crisostomo Yalung as a member of the Catholic Initiative for Enlightened Movie Appreciation (CINEMA), a Jubilee project of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines-Office of Women. She is among 30 men and women volunteers who receive bi-monthly assignments for discussion and evaluation. Seminars and workshops on film review and classification were conducted from January to June this year before CINEMA was launched last July 14.
Pagadut also attended the first annual convention of the Christian Bible Association of the Philippines held at the Phinma Training Center, Tagaytay City last July 2-30. She was one of two lay women who were elected as members of the Regional Development Committee in Luzon.
DLSU-Manila celebrates Jubilee Week for the Youth
Together with the whole Christendom, the DLSU-Manila community will celebrate the Jubilee Week for the Youth, with the theme, “xpress ur faith thru service 4 d community”. This week coincides with the celebration in Rome of the
15th World Youth Day.
The Lasallian Pastoral Office, in cooperation with the Religious Studies Department and the various organizations, has lined up activities for this special occasion of the Catholic Church.
Eucharistic celebrations will be held daily at 12:10 p.m. while confessions will be held on the following dates: Monday, 10:30 a.m.-12 noon at Pearl of Great Price Chapel; Tuesday, same time at the Most Blessed Sacrament (MBS) Chapel; and Wednesday, 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the MBS Chapel.
There will also be lectures, film showing, tree planting, and outreach activity. A house building will also be held in the Las Piñas project site of the Habitat for Humanity.
