Computer Lab Policies

  1. Personal belongings such as back packs, bags (of a reasonable size) may be brought inside the lab. For convenience, big bags should be placed on the shelves designated for that purpose.
     
  2. Students are encouraged to be on guard with their valuables (i.e, cell phone, wallet, other electronic devices). The IT Center, which embodies its SA's/LA's, will not be held liable for the loss or damage of any personal property of laboratory users.
     
  3. Users must stay at the terminals assigned to him/her by the SA/LA on Duty. Swapping of tag numbers is not allowed. Loitering inside the lab is also prohibited.
    • Only one student should occupy one computer terminal.
    • In case of group work, the SA/LA may allow a maximum of two students to occupy a single terminal.
       
  4. No one is allowed to change the configuration of any lab facility without proper authorization from the IT Center.
    • Equipment and cables are to be moved by authorized personnel only. Lab users are not allowed to attach personal hardware or software to the computer lab network without permission from the IT Center.
    • Any malfunction or damage in the computer terminal being used must be immediately reported to the SA on Duty.
       
  5. Lab users are required to be out of the facility before closing to give time to the SA/LA for shut down procedures.
     
  6. Chewing gum, eating, drinking, smoking, and any form of vandalism are prohibited inside the lab.
     
  7. Games are not allowed inside the lab. This includes computer-related games, card games and other games that may disturb the operation of the lab.
     
  8. Any form of CHAT, MUDS, or MOO is strictly prohibited.
     
  9. Accessing PORNOGRAPHIC sites is strictly prohibited.
     
  10. Use of radios, cassette players, CD players or any similar equipment is prohibited. Cellular phones should be in silent mode before entering any Computer Lab. Silence should always be observed.
     
  11. Any conduct or activity which disturbs the lab environment is not allowed. Anyone causing a continual disturbance will be asked to leave the lab. For serious offense, the LA/SA may call the Security Office for assistance.
    • Persons exhibiting hostile or threatening behavior such as yelling, swearing, or disregarding requests made by lab personnel will be asked to leave the lab.
    • Acts or gestures which tend to offend other members of the community, including public display of physical intimacy, are not tolerated. (from Student handbook)
    • For classes held in the lab, the faculty is responsible for the behavior of his/her class.
       
  12. The computer labs are designated for Academic Use. Students who need to use computers to complete academic assignments are given priority over those using the computers for recreation.
     
  13. Proper decorum must be observed inside the computer laboratory.
     
  14. The SA/LA has the right to advise any user to leave the premises in case the user violates any of the policies.
