The United Nations’ through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has clearly indicated the need to “promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all” (SDG # 8). Through this goal, citizens and organizations the world over are encouraged to develop programs that address economic inequality and lack of opportunities for the poor.

Everyone is also enjoined to “strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development (SDG # 17)." Concrete action plans and priority areas of development must be developed using existing capacities and innovative approaches.

Social Entrepreneurship serves as a fresh opportunity for development organizations to develop a relatively new sector globally, which promises an equally enabling and flexible environment for social innovations to be developed both as an approach and a desired outcome towards inclusive development. In fact, it has evolved to becoming not just a development approach, but an area of collaborations among organizations in terms of impact, scalability, sustainability, and social value across sectors, within which, the need of the 21st century populace as well as the ‘climate’ of development are rooted.

Hence, the Lasallian Social Enterprise for Economic Development (LSEED) Component has been conceptualized as one of DLSU’s major vehicles to realize its vision of becoming a university in the service of society, especially the poor.  LSEED Localization strategies are as follows:

  • Establishment and Operationalization of a Social Enterprise Incubation Facility for DLSU Manila and its partner communities, where areas of partnership and collaboration will be discussed, developed, and implemented, taking into consideration the program key elements namely: scalability of impact, sustainability of initiatives, inclusive participation of stakeholders, and value creation.

  • Mainstreaming of Social Entrepreneurship and Social Innovations to scale-up the community engagement and development program of DLSU Manila geared towards the creation of jobs and livelihood opportunities for its partner communities.
  • Documentation of Community Engagement and Development Initiatives towards curriculum and co-curriculum integration.
  • Partnerships with Public and Private Organizations in in terms of knowledge sharing and capacity-building.
