Community Development Program

"St. John Baptist De La Salle drew schoolmasters together into a community because he knew they would need the support, shared knowledge, and resources of people of like mind if they were to succeed in their mission."
- - Koch, FSC - -

Initiating, facilitating, and coordinating provision of services to the marginalized communities based on the resources, expertise, and interests of DLSU-Manila and the needs of the communities. Engaged in direct organizing of sectoral and area based groups and offering capacity building and other relevant services to ensure people empowerment.

Three (3) Priority Areas:

1.Montalban (Phase Out) - DLSU-COSCA engaged PARAWAGAN ( a local federation of four POs of residents of AC. EEA, TABAK, and SAPA within Brgy. San Rafael, Rodriguez) at the height of anti-child labor campaign (2002-2003), where many children most of Elementary schooling age and/or actually controlled (oftentimes alongside with their parents-adult sibling alike) worked at quarry manually breaking big rocks into smaller contructions standard sizes. This condition delivers heavy impact on the children's education.

2.Singalong, Manila (Phase Out) - Singalong Community Development Cooperative (SCDC) was established last 2003 under the KILOS-Kababaihan. And was registered at the CDA last 2005 through the help of DLSU-COSCA. It provides individual loans for community members interested to start a small enterprise or pump additional capitalization for existing ones. In addition, it also provides skills training and other services to ensure that these are integrated and empowering efforts.

3.Talim Bay, Lian, Batangas - It is a partnership between De La Salle University and Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) since 2005 up to present. This project provides technical assistance and training to the coastal community and the local governement in cooperation with other concerned institutions in the public and private sectors; towards developing a viable Coastal Resource Management Project for Talim Bay, Lian, Batangas. And with this FINEX and La Salle have agreed in considering the contribution that this project would provide to the preservation of the country's natural resources.
