Syllabus Writing for Hybrid Courses

MODULE TOPICS :

Module 1 - Instructional Design in Technology
This is a one-day seminar-workshop designed to provide faculty participants the basic application of the principles of instructional design in developing technology-based instructional materials. Lecture presentation and hands-on workshop will focus on conceptualization, visualization and the application of the appropriate pedagogical treatment in the design.

Module 2 - Blended Learning with IVLE
This is a 2-day hands-on workshop designed to introduce the online teaching paradigm from design, management and practice. The first day will cover the pedagogy in online learning. Lecture presentation, demonstration and hands-on workshop will cover online teaching practices and how to design and manage both synchronous and asynchronous online communication. Emphasis is made on how to design online course content engaging online students in critical and reflective thinking.

The second day is intended to introduce the various tools and resources of the IVLE courseware which faculty participants can use to develop, build and manage an online course for an entire term using the Integrated Virtual Learning Environment (IVLE).

Module 3 - Syllabus Writing for Hybrid Courses
The basics of writing a syllabus for a hybrid course is covered with emphasis on designing blended learning activities.

Module 4 - Effective PowerPoint in the Classroom
This is about the effective application of the PowerPoint program in classroom teaching. Participants are expected to apply the basic design principles they learned from Module 1 in the preparation of their PowerPoint presentation.

Module 5 - Video Streaming
Provides the participants the opportunity to make and stream a 5-minute video clip of themselves as they lecture along with their PowerPoint presentation. Workshop output of a video streamed lecture may be posted in their IVLE online course.

Designing a Basic Interactive Multimedia Presentation (using Hyperstudio)
Intends to enhance participant's skills in creating a simple interactive multimedia presentation using the Hyperstudio program. Hands-on workshop will guide participants in exploring the many features and capabilities of the program as they create their simple, colorful and highly engaging multimedia presentation.

Digital Imaging (using Adobe Photoshop)
Offers a one-day skill training workshop designed to enhance faculty participants' skills in creating and manipulating digital images for use in their interactive multimedia presentations. Participants will acquire the basic skills and techniques in the application of Adobe Photoshop software. This is a special training hence, open to interested faculty.

Designing Website (using Dreamweaver)
This module is for anyone interested in designing web pages using Dreamweaver. Basic background of HTML is not necessary but a big help to understanding the program.

Basic Flash (using Adobe Flash)
This is a two-day training workshop designed to introduce the basic applications of Adobe Flash in preparing an interactive and dynamic content presentations.  The hands-on workshop will guide participants in creating a short interactive presentation using simple animations and vector-based drawings.

This special training is open to all faculty with no previous knowledge and experience in using Adobe Flash.

RELATED SERVICES :

Design with the help of appointed faculty technology-supported learning environments for selected general education or major courses ( CREM)

Produce with the help of appointed faculty a standardized set of interactive learning materials for selected general education courses or required major courses ( CREM)

Assist in the design of online distance education courses ( CREM)

Assist in the design and production of technology-based materials to be used by graduates and alumni preparing for professional board exams for licensing and certification ( CREM)
