Pathfinder : Quantum Mechanics

Scope Note:

Quantum mechanics (QM), also called wave mechanics, is the modern theory of matter, of atoms, molecules, solids, and of the interaction of electromagnetic fields with matter. It supersedes the classical mechanics embodied in Newton's laws and contains them as a limiting case (the so-called classical limit of QM). (Source: Encyclopedia of Applied Physics. New York : VCH Publishers, Inc., c1991. QC 5 E5 1991 v.15)

"Quantum mechanics governs the behavior of nature on a fundamental level. The basic dynamical law is the Schrödinger equation. It describes strange phenomena far beyond the realm of our everyday experience."
