Pathfinder - Fuzzy Logic

Scope Note:

Fuzzy logic is a superset of conventional (Boolean) logic that has been extended to handle the concept of partial truth- - truth values between “completely false”. It was introduced by Dr. Lotfi Zadeh of UC / Berkeley in the 1960’s as a means to model the uncertainty of natural language. (Source :http: //www. faqs. org/faqs /fuzzy~logic/part1/) Fuzzy logic emerged into themainstream of information technology in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. Fuzzylogic is a departure from classical Boolean logic in that it implements soft linguistic variables on a continuous range of truth values which allows intermediate values to be defined between conventional binary. It can often be considered a superset of Boolean or crisp logic in the way fuzzy set theory is a superset of conventional set theory.(Source: http:// www.emsl.pnl.gov/proj/neuron/fuzzy/what.html)
