Professional Profile:
Dr. Marianne Jennifer M. Gaerlan is a faculty member of the Department of English and Applied Linguistics in De La Salle University (DLSU). She obtained her PhD in Applied Linguistics also in DLSU where she has been teaching for the past twelve years. She teaches both in the undergraduate and graduate levels such courses as Oral Communication, Technical writing, Research Methods, and Psycholinguistics, Bilingualism and Bilingual Education. She was awarded Outstanding Teacher in the College of Education for two consecutive years by the DLSU Council of Student Organizations. Her research interests include metacognition, language teaching, language acquisition, and bilingual education. She has presented in numerous local and international conferences and has published in ISI journals. Currently, Dr. Gaerlan is also the Principal of the St. La Salle Preschool, a free preschool under the DLSU College of Education that serves the underprivileged areas surrounding the DLSU campus. Aside from teaching and research, she is very active in the Lasaliian mission of "providing a human and Christian education to all, especially the poor." She teaches Lasallian spirituality to graduating students, is active in Signum Fidei (the lay partners of the De La Salle Brothers), and is a facilitator of retreats and recollections.
