WORKSHOP 1    :      Biomass for Sustainable Bioenergy Production
SPEAKER           :      Assoc. Prof. Dr. Denny Kok Sum Ng



Dr. Denny Ng is an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering, University of Nottingham, Malaysia. He is one of the youngest Associate Professor in the university. He obtained his PhD degree from the University of Nottingham, Malaysia, and was the first student who completed a PhD program within two years. His areas of specialization include energy management, resource conservation via process integration techniques (pinch analysis and mathematical optimization), synthesis and analysis of biomass processing and integrated bio refineries, as well as energy planning for greenhouse gas emission reduction. Dr Ng is well-published and well-cited for his age (over 40 papers with an h-index of 16, Scopus records in September 2012) and has presented more than 70 papers in various conferences. He establishes collaboration with well-known international researchers from the United States, the Philippines, Taiwan, etc. throughout his career. He received the World Federation of Scientists (Malaysia National Scholarship) Award in 2007 and was shortlisted for The Young Chemical Engineer of the Year 2012 of IChemE. Apart from focusing on research and development (R&D), Dr. Ng also applied his R&D output in industrial consultation projects.



WORKSHOP 2    :      Optimization in Chemical Engineering using LINGO
SPEAKER           :      Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kathleen B. Aviso



Kathleen B. Aviso is an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at De La Salle University. Her specialization is on the development of optimization models for environmental decision-making. Applications of such models include water integration in eco-industrial parks (EIPs), input-output modeling for disaster risk management and design of low-carbon energy systems. Dr. Aviso has received multiple citations from the Philippine National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST). She was recipient of the 2013 NAST Outstanding Young Scientist Award, winner of the 2010 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists, and recipient of the 2008 NAST Outstanding Scientific Paper Award.



WORKSHOP 3    :      Life Cycle Modeling of Microalgal Biofuel Systems
SPEAKER           :      Prof. Dr. Luis F. Razon



Luis F. Razon is Full Professor of Chemical Engineering and current Director of the Food Institute at De La Salle University. He graduated from De La Salle University in 1980 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering (magna cum laude).  He obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana, under the direction of Prof. Roger A. Schmitz in 1985. Prior to returning to the academe in 2001, he worked in the food industry for 14 years.  He has performed research on a variety of topics, primarily chemical reactor stability and dynamics and, over the past 8 years, biofuels and life cycle assessment. He is part of the Sustainability Studies Program of the Commission of Higher Education (CHED) Private Higher Education Network (PHERNet).
