Overview of Information-Centric Networking

Prof. Yong-Jin Park
Waseda University, Tokyo

Recently, Information-Centric Networking (ICN) has attracted Internet researchers' attention as promising Future Internet Architecture. The current Internet is centered in the IP protocol and accesses information depending on a host location. On the other hand, ICN directly accesses information, using a content name. ICN is a generic name of that kind of architecture and a number of the research results have been reported. They include Data-Oriented, Named Data, and Content-Centric Networking.

We outline the ICN research status, including Future Internet research and ICN background, features of ICN, introduction of some ICN technologies, academic activities and standardization.
