De La Salle University, through the College of Computer Studies, conducted a series of lectures on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for Development and Game Development in several universities in the country: the University of Cordilleras (Baguio), University of Sto. Tomas, and Holy Angel University (Pampanga). The lectures focused on topics of e-Governance, e-Learning and Game Development. Basic concepts and possible research topics were presented by Mr. Sherwin Ona (e-Governance), Mr. Oliver Malabanan (e-Learning), and Mr. Rafael Cabredo (Game Development). DLSU hopes to encourage other universities to do research and applications development work on these relevant areas.
Apart from a lecture series, DLSU is also hosting the Emerging Technologies for Philippines 2020 Conference, which aims to bring together representatives from academe, government and industry to discuss current local work on ICT for development and Game Development. Both serve as key areas in Science and Technology research for a progressive e-Philippines by the year 2020.
Sec. Virgilio Pena, Chair of the Commission on ICT and Comm. Emmanuel Lallana will give keynote speeches. The conference also features two parallel tracks: ICT for Development and Game Development. The ICT for Development track has three sessions: e-Governance, e-Learning and Knowledge Management. The Game Development track also has three sessions: Game Development for the PC platform and mobile devices, and a special session sponsored by the International Game Development Association (Manila Chapter).
