Bachelor of Science in Physics with specialization in Materials Science

Cell phones, DVDs, Plasma TVs and iPods are just a few of new technological products that have been proven popular in recent years. Soon, things like electronic "noses", polymer-based rechargeable batteries, polymer-based display devices and alternative energy sources like fuel cells may become commonplace. The common denominator for all these products is that they are based on special properties of new materials discovered in the last century. From the flint stones of the Stone Age to composite materials and conductive polymers of the modern world, progress in technology has largely been based on discoveries of new materials. The Materials Science track of the BS Physics program aims to produce graduates who can work in industry and contribute to the discoveries of new materials that serve as substance of new technologies.

The Bachelor of Science in Physics with specialization in Materials Science is an eleven-trimester full BS Physics program enhanced with 25 units of courses in materials science, 12 units in electronics, and 12 units of computer courses. This will provide you with a classic training of physicists, which is known to produce people who are highly skilled in mathematical analysis, and the technical know-how, for a career in industry.

Aside from the traditional career in academe, you will be especially prepared for a career in the semiconductor industry, which at present contributes to more than half of Philippine exports. Graduates of Physics programs typically work in product engineering, quality control, process engineering, and failure analysis.
