Undergraduate Degree Programs

Bachelor of Arts in Sports and Recreation Management (AB-SPM)

In consonance with the mission of the De La Salle University, the College of Education offers a Bachelor in Sports and Recreation Management (BSRM).

The BSRM aims to provide an innovative and flexible program for the training of highly skilled and professional secondary and tertiary physical education teachers, sports and recreation managers, sports directors and leaders, athletic consultants, and other fitness and sports-related personnel working for public organizations/government offices and private companies.

The program is especially designed to develop management skills and competencies of future sports and recreation leaders; train potential leaders to apply management and fitness principles to practice; enhance problem-solving capabilities and creative thinking skills of sports and recreation leaders; and recognize and pursue quality recreational and fitness management techniques.

Foundations and Development of Physical Education (PHYFOND)
3 units
A course on the principles and practices of Physical Education through historical eras.

Basic Anatomy, Physiology and Kinesiology (ANPHYKE)
3 units
This course is an integrated orientation to the basic concepts of human anatomy and physiology, especially those applied to movements in sports, games and rhythmic activities. This is also designed to extend the student’s knowledge in assessment and programming for prescription of exercises and sports performance, time and motion analysis movements, exercise programs and sports activities.

Dance and Rhythm (DANZRHY)
3 units
This course introduces the student to the foundations and concepts of basic gymnastics and dance as a potent material or vehicle for the expression of human movements, including creative rhythm, recreational and foreign and folk dances.

Individual/Dual Sports and Team Sports (PESPORT)
3 units
This course exposes the students to a variety of individual and dual sports (e.g. table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton, fencing, etc.) their rules and background, and the principles behind them to achieve better sports and recreation management. Students are allowed to experience and have knowledge of the different popular team sports such as Basketball, Volleyball, Football, Softball, Baseball and Olympic Handball.

Recreational Leadership and Activities (LEADACT)
3 units
This course deals with the methods and techniques in the conduct of recreational activities, hands-on experiences in the most common/popular recreational activities, e.g. Music, Sports, Social Recreation (parties, party motif, dance and rhythm, games, outdoor activities, arts and crafts, hobbies) and Philippine games.

Measurement and Evaluation of Motor Performance (PERMEAS)
3 units
This course introduces the students to the methods and techniques of measuring and evaluating motor performances. Students are involved in critical evaluation of specific popular exercise testing procedures, development of graded exercise testing protocols used to assess and measure cognitive and psychomotor skills (e.g. physical fitness tests, practical skills test.) A practical subject which aims to introduce and increase students understanding of the variables of learning that influence motor skill acquisition and performance.

Swimming (PESWIMM)
3 units
This course introduces the students to the rudiments of swimming. It includes proper breathing procedures, coupled with the different strokes i.e., breast stroke, butterfly and the free stroke. This physical activity prepares the student for self-satisfaction and special skill in cases of emergency.
