A course that considers the different aspects of agricultural development, the role of the agricultural sector to the economy and the principles governing agricultural production. Requisite policies for agricultural development are presented and evaluated.
Comparative Economic Systems (COMPRES)
3 units
A study of the mechanism for organizing economic units in different societies are organized and decision making in response to economic problems. The study is undertaken with a concentration on problems in production and distribution. Understanding of the limitations of different economic systems is facilitated by comparing the similarities and differences of their institutional structures.
Phlippine Economic History and Institution (ECONHIS)

A historical treatment of the evolution of major economic institutions in the Philippines from the pre-colonial period to the present. Analyses of current economic problems are made using a historical approach.
Environmental Economics (ENVECON)
3 units
The course is primarily designed for students to realize and appreciate the applications of economics in the allocation and utilization of environmental resources. Policy interventions and its implications will also be studied. Environmental impact of policies adopted in the field of macroeconomics and international trade will be considered.
Growth Economics (GRWECON)
3 units
This course examines macroeconomic determinates of economic fluctuations and long-run economic growth along with some corresponding policy implications.
Health Economics (HELTECO)
3 units
This course deals with the analysis of the allocation of resources in health care. It examines health economic issues using various microeconomic tools. The objective of the course is to provide a theoretical basis for a good grasp of the practical issues in health plan design, management and administration.
History of Economic Analysis (HISTECO)
3 units
An integrated approach that deals with the study of the foundations of economic analysis from the pre-classical era to the present. Emphasis is placed on the Marginalist Revolution and Keynesian Revolution; future directions and economic inquiry are the other salient study aspects.
Industrial Economics (INDECON)
3 units
This course considers the different economic principles, theories and concepts in the market interaction of firms. Interactions are considered between firms and its consumers in specific market interactions. Policy implications of theses interactions on competitive behavior will be considered.
International Economic Relations (INTECOR)
3 units
A survey of the commercial and trade relations of the Philippines with the US, Japan, European Economic Community, ASEAN, and the socialist states. It also covers the leading contemporary issues in international trade and finance.
Labor Economics (LABOREC)
3 units
A study of the utilization of human resources in the economy, labor market institutions and their regulation by government. Topics include: minimum wage legislation, social security, manpower training, examination of the economic impact of trade unions and introduction to the industrial relation system.
Monetary Theory (MONTHEO)
3 units
A theoretical treatment of the demand for money, formulation of monetary policy, monetary aspects of macroeconomic policies. Economic programs (i.e.inflation, unemployment, exchange rate, interest rates) directly affected by the conduct of monetary policy are given special consideration.
Personnel Economics for Managers (PERECON)

The course provides a comprehensive and easy to understand application of economic analysis to the behavior of and the relationship between employers and employees. In particular, it introduces fundamental concepts in labor economics and their application to an understanding of the responses of employers and employees to wages, prices, profits and the non-pecuniary aspects of the employment relationship such as working conditions.
Introduction to Political Economy (POLECON)

A study of pre-capitalist models of production, the general principles of the mode of production, the stages of the development of capitalism, and capital and surplus value.
Poverty Economics (POVECON)

The course takles some of the important factors that affect the distribution of income and the level of poverty, particularly in developing countries. It discusses not only the policies employed by different countries to improve the lot of the poor but also the effect of external factors such as globalization and trade on the same.
Regional Economics (REGIECO)

An appreciation of the spatial and the temporal dimension in economic analysis; relating location and regional economic problems with policy and strategic issues in development planning to familiarize students with key concepts, theories and techniques of regional economics.
Resource Economics (RESECON)
3 units
This course focuses on a wide range of natural resource allocation problems. It introduces students to the principles, resoning, and techniques required to set-up and solve these allocation problems. Policy will serve as both an input and an implicated output of this approach.

This course covers a wide range of special topics for AB Economics majors. This may include but is not limited to the following: dynamic macroeconomics, general equilibrium macroeconomics, etc.

Corporate Planning (CORPLAN)
3 units
A course focusing on the processes of systematic corporate decision-making and planning for the future. It discusses the various stages of planning including formulation of objectives, identification of resources, identification, selection of alternative courses of action, and evaluation of decisions.
Development Planning (DEVPLAN)
3 units
A course in the use of economy-wide planning with emphasis on less developed countries. The course considers economics aggregates such as total output, savings, investment, government spending, and foreign transactions, and explores sectoral relationships in the economy.
Energy and Resource Economics (ENRECON)
3 units
An introduction to economic geography of the Philippines. It covers the distribution, utilization, exploitation, and conservation of the different natural resources of the Philippines. It is also intended as an introduction to the analysis of supply and demand for energy resources.
Economic Model Building and Forecasting (ECOFORE)
3 units
A course introducing students to procedures in the development, maintenance, and utilization of univariate and multivariate forecasting models. The course includes a survey of time-series analysis tools, numerical procedures for the solution of linear and non-linear forecasting models together with their dynamic properties.
International Finance (INTEFIN)
3 units
A course which focuses on different theories, approaches, and practices relating to balance of payments adjustments, international capital movements, international liquidity, exchange rate determination, and optimum currency areas including contemporary international problems and monetary arrangements.
Introduction to Managerial Economics (MANAGEC)

A study of how the theory of consumer behavior, firm and market structures can be used to guide management decision making. Applications are made under different market situations. Emphasis on the use of mathematical tools are given.
Money and Banking (MONBANK)

A study of the role of money and financial institutions in the economy. The course includes discussion of monetary policy, money and income determination, inflation, exchange rate management, interest rate determination and financial development.
Project Analysis (PRANALY)
3 units
An introduction to cost-benefit analysis of projects. Topics include identification and measurement of costs and benefits, valuation, shadow pricing, and investment criteria for comparing costs and benefits. Different methodoligies in statistics, econometrics and operations research are given extensive application in this course.
