Dr. Glenn V. Alea

Dr. Glenn V. Alea finished his undergraduate, MS and PhD degrees at De La Salle University-Manila. His MS thesis is on natural products involving the isolation, characterization, and structural elucidation of terpenes from clavularia inflata, a soft coral. He did his research at James Cook University of North Queensland, Australia .

Dr. Alea was a DOST-ESEP PhD fellow from 1994-1998. He was a research fellow from 1997-1998 at Southampton University, England doing organic synthesis. His dissertation involves the synthesis and characterization of tetrathiafulvalene derivatives and macrocycles containing sugar units .

Dr. Alea’s research interests include the syntheses of tetrathiafulvalene macrocycles, cobaltadithiolene complexes, pyrazinamide and isoniazid derivatives, phthalimide derivatives, and thiazolidinedione derivatives.

Dr. Alea has more than twenty years of teaching experience rising from Assistant lecturer 1 to Associate Professor 6. At present, he is Chair of the department of chemistry at DLSU. He is also the Vice President for Internal Affairs of the Integrated Chemists of the Philippines (ICP), and the present Board Secretary of the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies (PFCS).
