Extra-Curricular Activities
The thrust of the College of Science is to develop an academic community of whole persons who are intellectually, socially, spiritually responsive to the needs of nation and of the Filipinos, using the instrument of science. These values are manifested in the different science disciplines through its various programs and services. The role of Science and Technology, is emphasized in the curricular offerings with research and development as a necessary input.
The College of Science envisions itself as one of the major leaders in natural science research and instruction at par with key international academic institutions. Hence, COS of the DLSU-Manila shall become one of the nation's major provides of highly trained and skilled scientists of sound moral values.
The College is committed to the development of a scientific community of competent scientists imbued with moral responsibility and dedicated to the improvement of the quality of Filipino life.
Advances in Science and Technology are a necessary drive and support toward economic development. A sustainable progress thus requires a pool of competent scientists who are excellent researchers, and/or educators, and are truly practicing Christians committed to value of respect for humanity.
1. Enhance capability to offer world class science and mathematics instructions and research through:
a. significant increase in the number of PhD Degree holders by hiring, and supporting more faculty members to go on study leave,
b. acquisition of more equipment/instruments through DLSU budget allocation and external funding,
c. for the various research teams/ groups in the departments to optimize, if not maximize, their
research capability through increased research outputs/publications, andd. the training of junior faculty and graduate/undergraduate students are research assistants.
2. Raise the standards of science instruction and research in the Philippines through:
a. more intensified recruitment of graduate students from the academe, industry, and other academic and research instructions
b. active participation in the offerings of the science education programs of the College of Education, and
c. sustained offering of diploma programs to upgrade the quality of science and math instruction on the elementary and secondary levels.
3. Increase the pool of skilled human resources for scientific, industrial, business, and environmental establishments by offering more graduate courses that are responsive to the current needs of Philippine society and the Asia-Pacific Region.
4. Hire more faculty members who are experts in the identified fields of specialization; and offering more training programs which emphasized skills development.
