Mr. Cantos joined the World Wildlife Fund Philippines in 2000 and managed several biodiversity, natural resources and climate change projects and programs until 2011 which involved program management, donor reporting, stakeholder coordination, project development, knowledge building and monitoring and evaluation. Thereafter, he joined the California Energy Commission in Sacramento, USA as Renewable Energy Intern Specialist which allowed him to participate in the development of energy sector policies and strategies through working directly with representatives from utilities companies in the state of California. In 2012, he joined the World Bank-Global Environment Facility (GEF) as Climate Change Specialist in Washington DC, USA. His work at the GEF involved the review of project and program proposals from countries in Southeast Asia and West Africa on climate change mitigation submitted by parties to the UNFCCC for Work Program inclusion, making sure they were consistent with the GEF’s operational principles and coherent with the commitments indicated in the countries’ national mitigation and adaptation programs and strategies. Just recently, he was appointed as the Philippines Country Coordinator for the World Bank Global Partnership Program on natural capital accounting and valuation of ecosystems services implemented simultaneously in nine (9) different countries.

Mr. Cantos also works as part-time professional portrait and landscape photographer and sits as Member of the Editorial Board-Life Sciences Global Research, Technology Innovations in Renewable Energy Journal from 2012 to present.


He has published papers on biodiversity, conservation and management and just recently an econometric research paper estimating the impacts of bioethanol on the gasoline prices in the Philippines.

Mr. Cantos has handled subjects on Development Studies including Community Development, Demography, Global Development, Planning and Development, Citizenship and Governance and has supervised senior research papers on development as part of Methods of Research and Senior Research Paper courses for senior development students majors.
