Center for Language Learning (CELL)

The DLSU-MANILA Center for Language Learning (CeLL) offers students the opportunity to improve their proficiency in English, and to learn other basic languages like Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, French, and Filipino for Foreigners. Short intensive courses are offered on a three-week schedule. Classes are held ten hours a week at the De La Salle University-Manila Br. Andrew Gonzalez Hall on 2269 Taft Avenue, Malate, Manila.

PROGRAMS OFFERED

DLSU-CeLL offers different types of non-degree English language programs: a general English Proficiency Development program, academic preparation program, special programs, and consultancies, as well as basic programs in Mandarin, Spanish, Japanese, French, and Filipino.

GENERAL ENGLISH PROGRAM

CeLL's general English program consists of courses aimed at developing fundamental language skills. Courses in listening, speaking, reading, and writing are offered. These are intended as classes in English for beginners, intermediate, or advanced students.

PRE-ACADEMIC PROGRAM

CeLL's academic preparation program focuses on developing language skills necessary for success in academic life. Courses in reading help students to understand written texts, develop a wider vocabulary, read critically, and think analytically. Students' fluency in spoken and written English is developed through lessons in effective oral and written communication. Exercises in taking notes from lectures and written materials, synthesizing notes from various sources, and preparing for and answering different types of examinations help develop effective study skills among the students.

CLASSES

A small class size in DLSU-Manila Center for Language Learning is maintained to enable the teachers to attend to individual students' needs. Emphasis is on interaction and students' active participation in using spoken and written English.

The following are available upon request:

  • special schedules for certain groups

ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES

Students have the opportunities to interact with students of other nationalities through:

  • off-campus trips
  • film showing
  • culminating activities

FACULTY

Teachers in DLSU-MANILA Center for Language Learning are language specialists, professionally trained, and experienced in the teaching of the courses offered. They work as a team to provide successful language learning opportunities for students.
