System Development and Programming Track

This track is for the IT Professionals and students who wish to keep themselves updated in the current trends in computing and system development or start a career in programming.

ASP.Net with Visual Basic.Net

This course enables participants to develop dynamic websites and other web applications using the .NET framework focusing on the Visual Basic language.

Minimum requirement: Object Oriented Programming, knowledge of Visual Basic language

Advanced Robotics

This course provides participants with extensive training on the three major disciplines required in Robotics – electronics, mechanics and software.  Topics include analog and digital electronics, sensors and circuits, electronic communication systems, relevant topics in physics, kinematics, algorithms, programming, and microcontrollers.  Training hours are equally divided between lecture and laboratory.  At the end of the training, participants are expected to become more competent to pursue robotics projects in research and in most industrial applications that can benefit from robotics.

Minimum requirement: Computer literacy, some technical training in electronics and mechanics

MATLAB

MATLAB is a powerful computational and visualization software tool. The ease-of-programming experience is facilitated by a user-friendly environment and a collection of "toolboxes" for applications in various technical fields that include computational science, engineering,
biotechnology and computational finance. This course aims to develop in participants a practical appreciation of the software tool through trainer-guided design and development of applications.

Introduction to Programming with C
Duration: 36 hrs | Php 7,760
In this course, participants develop a skill in logic formulation using a pseudoprogramming language.  A basic training on the C language is included to enable participants to program immediately.  Numerous programming exercises adequately prepare them for other languages such as Java and C#.

Modeling and Simulation
Duration: 30 hrs I Php 6,450
This course covers simulation, which refers to a broad collection of methods to mimic the behavior of real systems. The main focus of this course is on building logical or mathematical models of systems and analyzing these models using simulation software. Different types of simulation models such as Static, Dynamic, Continuous, Discrete, Deterministic and Stochastic models are discussed. This course also covers mathematical preliminaries to simulation such as pseudo-random number generation, probability distributions, variance reduction techniques, and queuing theory.

Object Oriented Design

This course presents the object-oriented approach to systems development, with emphasis on design. This provides conventional programmers with a new methodology in developing applications.

Visual C++

Visual Basic.NET

Microsoft Visual Basic .NET (VB.NET or VB .NET) is a programming environment which can be used to create desktop and Web-based applications for the Microsoft Windows family of operating systems.

Minimum requirement for participants: Algorithmic logic formulation and some programming background or the satisfactory completion of the Introduction to Programming short course.

Java Programming

This course enables the participants to learn one of the more popular languages in the world. Using the language, participants will be able to bring new levels of interactivity to the World Wide Web (WWW).

Minimum requirement: Training on algorithmic logic formulation with some programming experience

C# Programming

The course is a basic training on programming using the C# language. C# is a simple, modern and general-purpose component-oriented language that can be used to produce convincing data-driven solutions. It is suitable for projects intended for the Web, for forms-based applications as well as for embedded systems.

Introduction to Programming with C for Incoming Freshmen

Game Development Training Camp
Duration: 18 hrs | Php 3,950
The three-day camp will enable participants to design and develop games. Topics include theoretical game design, basic and advanced techniques in art asset creation, basic game physics and deployment. DLSU Robotics Camp
Duration: 18 Hours | Php P3,950
The Camp's main goal is to generate interest in science and technology through robotics among participants and to promote values such as cooperation and teamwork that are indispensable in the workplace as well as in the community. Major topics include basic electronics, robot physics, kinematics, sensors, circuits and C programming. The training is specially designed for those who are starting out in robotics as a hobby and for those who are already hobbyists and intend to learn more about robotics. The Camp is open to three categories of participants: (1) elementary grades 5-7 students, (2) high school students, (3) college students and hobbyists. Participants will be grouped according to their background or training and expertise in the field of robotics. The course fee will cover training materials, participation in the robotics competition on October 3, 2009, lunch and snacks for the duration of the Camp.

Robotics Competition 2009
Duration: 3 Hours | Php 500/Php 100

The competition is open to three categories of participants:

  1. elementary grades 5-7 students,
  2. high school students,
  3. college students and hobbyists.

The participants for the first two categories will compete using wheeled robots that they will program to do line following, maze exploration and at least one difficult path traversal that will require the use of all available sensors of the robot. Participants for the third category will compete using a robot that they will assemble from a list of robot parts. Both helpful features of a wheeled robot and a biped may be built in to the assembled robot. The main task for the robot is to traverse a complex path. Both speed of task completion and the low count of robot parts will be considered by the judges to decide the winners.

Competition and Viewing Fees hexapod
The competition fee of P500 allows only one robot entry by one participant or group. Non-competing observers are required to pay a viewing fee of P100 per person. All non-competing viewers will also be required to submit an registration form.

Free Viewing
Public elementary and high school students and teachers can observe the event for free. Only one parent or guardian of a public elementary student who is observing the event will be allowed free entry. All participants in the other robotics courses held in 2008 and 2009 before the competition date can also view the competition for free.

Prizes at Stake
Robots, Robot parts and accessories, and scholarships/discounts in CEC's short courses await winners in the competition.  

End-user Track

This track is for professionals and students who would like to learn more about office automation and the Internet.

Advanced MS Excel
Duration: 10 hrs | Php 2,850
This course is designed to provide an extensive overview of the advanced features of spreadsheet computing.  Topics include organization and management of data in a list, retrieval and analysis of data from lists and tables, solution of multivariable problems and the use of the macro system. 

Minimum requirement:  Knowledge of basic Excel

Computer Electronics
Duration: 24 hrs | Php 4.900
This course offers a comprehensive hands-on training on hardware basics towards a deeper understanding of how computers work.  Topics covered include a study of electronic devices and circuitry, switching power supplies, logic gates, A/D and D/A converters, input and output peripherals, memory systems and storage devices.

Minimum requirement: Computer Literacy

Internet Basics
Duration: 30 hrs | Php 6,500
The Internet offers instant access to information, research, entertainment, electronic transaction and communication. In this course, participants will learn the basics of the Internet that includes the use of a browser, sending an email, using chat, among many others.  Ethical, social issues, privacy and security concerns will also be discussed.

PC Assembly, Troubleshooting and Networking
Duration: 30 hrs | Php 9,800
Through this course, participants gain all the necessary knowledge and skill to build, maintain, repair and interconnect desktop computers as a network to allow the sharing of files and the common use of I/O resources such as printers.

Minimum requirement: Computer literacy

AutoCAD
Duration: 36 hrs | Php 7,850
The course will enable the student to learn computer-aided design and drafting through the AutoCAD system. Topics include basic operation, use of tools and employment of various techniques including layouts and viewports. Students will learn to create 2D and 3D drawings for
applications in manufacturing, site plans and in any creative design.

Minimum requirement: Computer literacy

Computer Literacy and MS Office
Duration: 36 hrs | Fee: Php 6,300 (daily)/ Php 7,200 (Saturdays only))
Participants learn basic computer skills that are now required in most workplaces. The training includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications using MS Office as well as research and communication through the internet. A carefully designed syllabus and methodology permit a wider coverage in a limited time without compromising student comprehension or skill retention.

Minimum requirement for participants: typing skill

Computer Literacy and OpenOffice
Duration: 36 hrs | Fee: Php 6,300 (daily)/ Php 7,200 (Saturdays only)
Participants learn basic computer skills that are now required in most workplaces. The training includes word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications using OpenOffice as well as research and communication through the internet. OpenOffice is free and is now gaining acceptance in the workplace.

Minimum requirement for participants: typing skill

Web Development
Duration: 36 hrs | Fee: Php 8,940
After completing the course, participants are expected to be able to develop their own web-based applications. Web Development is broken down into client-side processing and server-side processing. Client-side processing will focus on the use of JavaScript and Dynamic HTML. Server-side processing will apply the request-response paradigm to the JSP and PHP platforms. The following tools will be used: Mozilla Firefox Web Browser, Apache Web Server with PHP, Apache Tomcat with JSP, MySQL database in Windows platform.

Minimum requirement: Working knowledge of Java programming

Web Design
Duration: 18 hrs | Fee: Php 4,250
This course covers the important aspects in the design of web pages using Dreamweaver. Topics include web layout and design, user interface principles, web interactivity and integration of multimedia elements. The training will be held at DLSU's multimedia laboratory.

Minimum requirement for participants: knowledge of HTML

Advanced Web Design
Duration: 36 hrs / Fee: Php 7,560
This course takes a step back and refocuses on the more important aspects of web design that are often overlooked. Techniques essential to the success of a site will be discussed viewing them from both the macro and micro perspectives of web design. The training will enable designers to develop great sites that will be well structured and platform independent while being able to handle dynamic changes effectively.

Minimum requirements: knowledge of HTML, CSS and Javascript

PHP Programming
Duration: 36 hrs | Fee: Php 7,700
This is a basic course in PHP, a powerful HTML-embedded scripting language that is easy to use for developing dynamic data-driven web applications.  PHP is free and it runs on almost all popular hardware platforms.  It is also portable, compatible with a variety of web servers and operating systems, including Linux and Windows.

Desktop Publishing using Photoshop
Duration: 30 hrs | Php 6,300
Desktop Publishing (DTP) incorporates pictures, graphics and text into a single document. Page layout and digital imaging techniques will be discussed in depth. Applications include invitations, brochures, multi-column publications such as newsletters, package designs, promotional items and outdoor signs.

Complete Photoshop
Duration: 36 hrs | Php 8,600
In this course, participants learn the basic and advanced features of Photoshop CS2, the industry standard for image enhancement and compositing for print, multimedia and the Web.  The course is designed for practically anyone who wants to learn computer imaging even with no background in graphic design.

Advanced MS Office

This course provides the participants a comprehensive training on the more advanced features of MS Office such as Mail Merge, Style Sheets and Themes for Word, the Macro System for Excel, and graphics and charts for PowerPoint among many others

This is a customized course that provides the participants with the fundamentals and some of the essentials features of Word (word processing), Excel (electronic spreadsheet), and PowerPoint (presentation software). Knowledge in this application allows the professionals to be more efficient and productive in their work.

Basic Word

This course provides the participants with the fundamental tools essential in creating, formatting, lay-outing, and proofreading documents using word processing applications.

Basic Excel

This is a course designed to provide an extensive overview of spreadsheet computing focused on three integrated business tools: worksheet, graphics, and databases. Discussions are supported with hands-on exercises to reinforce topics on creating and formatting worksheet data, writing formulas, consolidating and linking worksheets.

Basic PowerPoint
Duration: 10 hrs | Php 2,720
This is a course that familiarizes the participants with the tools used in designing and creating effective presentations. Lectures and hands-on exercises cover topics on creating and formatting slides.

IT Fundamentals with PC Assembly
Complete package | Php 1,675 plus delivery cost
This is the first of a number of training courses that cater to students who cannot attend regular sessions at the DLSU Taft, Manila campus. The complete package includes 10 training DVDs, one month of unlimited email consultation with a trainer and a DLSU certificate that can be earned by passing a comprehensive exam. Topics covered include an introduction to computers, I/O devices, storage, operating systems, application software, programming languages, data communication, security, ethics and privacy. An instructional video on PC assembly is also included. The Confirmation Form is required for the purchase of the complete package.

The training DVDs may be purchased separately at P750 and can be delivered anywhere in the Philippines for an additional P250. Purchases may be arranged at the Center's office located at the ground floor of the College of Computer Studies. Payments may be deposited through any UCPB branch in DLSU's account no. 120-114711-9.

Computer Networking Track

This track is for computer professionals who are involved in the administration and management of computer networks.

Data Communications
Duration: 30 hrs | Php 6,930
Concepts and theories in computer networking and data communications are discussed in this course. The training will provide foundation to enable them to design and set up effective and efficient network configurations. The participants are then encouraged to specialize in the Unix or Windows 2003 Systems.

Minimum requirement:  Computer literacy

Unix System Administration

Participants are trained on setting up a Unix system. The course provides an introduction to this extremely powerful system. Details of establishing a Unix computing environment will also be discussed.

Windows 2003 System Administration

This course provides an Introduction to the Windows 2003 Server Network operating system. This is designed for the developer, power end-user, corporate MIS Manager, and multi-hardware platform and network server implementer.

Windows 2008 System Administration
Duration: 35 hrs | Php 16,500
This course provides a comprehensive training on configuring and troubleshooting Windows Server 2008 Active Directory domain services. The training is designed for the developer, power end-user, corporate MIS Manager, and multi-hardware platform and network server implementer.  A Microsoft Certified Trainer conducts all sessions.

Network Security with Ethical Hacking
Duration: 35 hrs | Php 18,300
This course is specially designed for network administrators, technical managers and security personnel who are in charge of securing networks. A primary technique that will be discussed involves probing vulnerabilities through ethical hacking and implementing measures to
correct weaknesses and to mitigate the possible consequences of successful intrusions.  Topics include footprinting, scanning, enumeration, system hacking, Trojans and backdoors, sniffers, denial of service, and web application vulnerabilities.

The trainer is one of the very few experts on network security in the Philippines. He is both a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH).

Minimum requirement:  Knowledge of the OSI model and some programming background

Managers and Data Administrators Track

This track is for IT managers and government administrators who would like to update their knowledge and skills and further their understanding of the use of IT tools in managing people and projects.

Excel for Business and Management

This basic course in Excel was designed for business managers and entrepreneurs who are involved in either financial management or in operations.  Examples and case studies that will be discussed include real-world scenarios in concerns such as finance and cost accounting, marketing, production, risk management, job costing, purchasing, inventory, project management and many others.

Systems Analysis and Design

This is an introduction to the systems concept and system development life cycle with emphasis on system design tools and techniques such as Data Flow Diagram (DFD), Hierarchic Input Process Output (HIPO) Charts and Systems flowcharts. It likewise tackles the various methodologies that have been used by the leading IT consultancy firms in the world.

Project Management

This is a course that enables managers and administrators to manage people, materials, and events to maximize utilization of the company's resources.

MS Access
Duration: 18 hrs | Fee: Php 4,250
This is a course that enables managers and administrators to create and update databases, query records and generate different reports.

Health Informatics
Duration: 24 hrs | Php 4,650
Focus of the course is on the practical applications of health informatics.  Coverage includes design, procurement, deployment, implementation, sourcing, effective usage, and the evaluation of solutions.  The course targets the high profile areas and leads the participants in the direction of broader and deeper explorations.  A MOODLE- based website will be used to access online lectures and case discussions. Health professionals as well as IT professionals working in health organizations are expected to benefit the most from this course.  There is no minimum requirement; however, some knowledge of healthcare and the health system will definitely help the participant.

Software Engineering
Duration: 36 hrs | Php 7,800
This course introduces participants to the fundamental principles and methodologies involved in the effective and efficient development of software systems. Topics include architectural and detailed design with emphasis on object-oriented methods, the design process, and design documentation. Various approaches to requirements analysis and review activities are examined.  The life-cycle development of software systems, human-computer interaction and ethical responsibilities in software development are also discussed.

Primavera

The course provides a basic training in the use of a leading software that can help in both project, program and portfolio management.  This powerful and versatile software enables the project supervisor or manager to select with ease the best strategic mix of concurrent projects.

MS Project

In this course, participants are trained to develop plans, manage resources and tasks together, track progress, and effectively manage costs with the help of the software.  The latest version 2007 Professional will be used in the training.

Corporate Training

The training may be conducted in-house (participants' company) or in one of the training rooms of the College of Computer Studies or elsewhere in the Taft campus. It is cheaper to conduct the training in-house because the cost of computer use is borne by the company. Nevertheless all in-house computers that will be used in this case must have licensed softwares required in the training.
An advantage of this type of training is that CEC is able to design the training in content, focus, pace and delivery to cater to the specific needs of the group.
