Vision

The Department envisions itself as a community of distinguished teachers, researchers, and students with a reputation for excellence in the transmission and generation of knowledge in the discipline of economics.

It will be known for its strength in the area of applied economics, its mastery of economic theory and quantitative methods, and its eagerness to expand into new fields in economics.

Mission

Guided by this vision, the Department will endeavor to be an internationally recognized department of economics and an important participant in economic inquiry in the Asia-Pacific region.

Its mainstay will be a pool of competent scholars who excel in teaching and research, and who are supported by modern facilities and adequate resources.

Its mandate is to nurture graduates with Lasallian values who have a thorough grounding in the state-of-the-art in economics, strong analytical and expository skills, and an abiding sense of mission to improve the human condition, in general, and the country’s development in particular.

The research it produces will initiate discussions on key economic and social issues, contribute to intelligent policy debate, and shape the development of innovative curricular programs.

Through the expert advice it provides government, the business sector, civil society, and international development agencies, it will make a significant contribution to the building of a prosperous and equitable society.
